SCFZ poll: Shah Rukh Khan
SCFZ poll: Shah Rukh Khan
The randomiser has spoken, and we'll be polling the 104 films of SRK, from whom I've seen a big fat zero
The rules:
- i'll assume ballots are ranked unless you tell me otherwise. unranked ballots are fine.
- deadline for ballots: next Tuesday, in seven days, whatever day that is
- if anyone is watching films for these polls, then i'll extend the deadline up to three days, if someone requests an extension
we'll use the extended rules for this poll:
• if you have seen an odd number of SRK films, you can round up instead of down when determining the length of your ballot (e.g. if you have seen 7, you can list 4 films instead of the usual 3)
• if you have seen more than 10 SRK films, your ballot can extend beyond 5 films (e.g. if you have seen 13, you can list up to 7)
However, the max number allowed in total is 10 even if you've seen 21+.

trying to vote for performance instead of film so leaving out hey ram and some of the very important cameo roles. seen 22 but missing a number of very important ones (darr, ahamaq, maya memsaab, dil to pagal hai...)

Several were chopped off due to length restriction. There are at least 10 out there I'd still like to see.

That's 9 so you can still add one more if you want!
Seen 17. Outstanding actor within his range, and while I hardly know everything people say about him, I suspect he's still underrated as a dancer.
Just checked Lbxd and I can't believe it... has nobody here seen Mohabbatein?? Far and away my favorite modern Bollywood, and SRK's unforgettable in it, as is Amitabh Bachchan.
Anyway, here are my picks. Unfortunately I wasn't rating movies when I first discovered SRK in 2005. Which is the one where his family moves to Queens? Let me know and I'll adjust my list.
1. Mohabbatein
2. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi
3. Veer-Zaara
4. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
5. Kal Ho Naa Ho
6. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
7. Paheli
8. Dil To Pagal Hai

this is really tough for me. a combination of having grown up watching every srk movie and being old enough to where i can't reliably recall a bunch of them. hoping to watch/rewatch some over this long weekend. so might edit.

honorable mention: fauji - an tv series from 1988 that was apparently rewritten to make his character the lead because "the camera loved him too much' (source: wikipedia). i can't personally attest to that. all i know is that Lt. Abhimanyu Rai was instantly every girl and woman's heartthrob. it's perhaps the most distinct memory i have of someone coming out of the blue and just capturing an entire nation based on just a 13-episode tv series <3. i love ineffable star quality so much.

one of the most underrated early srk films, from the guy who directed him in his early dooradashan tv hit circus. he gets to play with both raj kapoor shree 420 imagery and more complicated dev anand navektan stuff. plus it's just a wonderfully fun movie to look at - lots of detailed widescreen compositions, careful use of space and decor, packing the margins with great weird character actors.

i've got and tallied 8 ballots. in case anyone wants to add or change anything or any latecomers want to submit a ballot, i'll keep this open until the end of the day.
In total, eight people voted for twenty-six movies, and here's the top thirteen (four movies tied for tenth). The tiebreaker didn't change anything in either case so I just ranked them chronologically.
1. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (Aditya Chopra, 2008) 31 pts
2. Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (Kundan Shah, 1994) 24 pts

=4. Main Hoon Na (Farah Khan, 2004) 21 pts

Since we've now done two modern dudes, I was thinking it would be cool to do a classic actress next, bure has suggested Babs Stanwyck, flip has suggested Audrey Totter, and Roscoe has suggested Maria Ouspenskaya. The latter has 25 credits while Totter has 91 but with shitloads of TV work in later years, so I'm leaning towards Stanwyck but I'll let the randomiser decide again. If people have alternative suggestions, get them in!

Yay, any of those would be great!
