Re: SCFZ poll: Mario Bava
sure, no problem! if you need longer, that's fine too, just let me know, the deadlines aren't important.

Seen 19 (was a big giallo fan in my teens)
Rabid Dogs
Blood and Black Lace
The Whip and the Body
A Bay of Blood
Black Sunday
(Ironically only 2 of the above are giallo films - decided not to vote for the underrated Lust of the Vampire as it was a co-directed effort)

Thanks to flip for the extension! I was able to get to all the ones I wanted to, for now, found a couple new favourites, and noticed some recurring stylistic/plot elements in Bava's flicks to boot.
Seen 15. Top five:
1. La frusta e il corpo / The Whip and the Body (1963)
2. La maschera del demonio / Black Sunday (1960)
3. Diabolik / Danger: Diabolik (1968)
4. Operazione paura / Kill, Baby, Kill (1966)
5. I tre volti della paura / Black Sabbath (1963)
1957's I vampiri would make my list, but I consider Riccardo Freda its director, not Bava.

great, i'll tally this one up either tonight or tomorrow, any ballots that come in before i finish will be counted, but if anyone is still planning to post a ballot, please do so soon!
definitely one of the closest polls we've ever had - less than a single first-place vote separates the top four films:

I'm a bit out of touch with current Bava attitudes, but isn't that a bit of an upset win for Kill, Baby Kill? I didn't remember that one being considered his best previously, though it's obviously influential enough.
As far as I know, among Bava nuts "nowadays" Lisa and the Devil is seen as his magnum opus.
To please the majority is the requirement of the Planet Cinema. As far as I'm concerned, I don't make a concession to viewers, these victims of life, who think that a film is made only for their enjoyment, and who know nothing about their own existence.
