SCFZ poll: Mario Bava
SCFZ poll: Mario Bava
Polling the films of director Mario Bava
The rules:
- your list can include no more than half of the Bava films you've seen, up to a maximum of 5. So if you've seen seven of his films, for example, you can list only a top 3. It's only if you've seen ten or more of his films than you can list the maximum of five.
- i'll assume ballots are ranked unless you tell me otherwise. unranked ballots are fine.
- deadline for ballots: next Friday, in seven days, whatever day that is
- if anyone is watching films for these polls, then i'll extend the deadline three days, if someone requests an extension
- next poll: whoever posts the first ballot in this thread is free to nominate the director we poll next, unless you've nominated in this round already (everyone should get a chance). Already nominated this round: greg x, rischka, dt, silga, kanafani, brian d, greennui, ofrene, mesnalty, john ryan, roscoe, evelyn
umbugbene created an index on letterboxd of all of our previous polls here: letterboxd.com/umbugbene/list/index-of-all-scfz-director-polls/
one rule for nominees: at least 3 scfzers need to have seen 10+ of a nominee's films, or at least 4 scfzers need to have seen at least 8 of the nom's films, so if it isn't clear if that will be the case, we'll confirm that's true before moving forward
if 24 hours pass after a poll opens, and no one eligible to nominate has posted a ballot, then i'll nominate someone, and then we'll start over, and everyone will be able to nominate again

twodeadmagpies - if you want to (i think you declined last time), you can choose our next director!

(but if you could keep the clarence brown one open until late tues so i can watch as many as poss, that'd be nice, ta)

oh right, sorry, my memory is bad! if you want to postpone your director choice til later, then the selection moves on to thoxans - you can pick the director for our next poll
happy to extend the deadline on the clarence brown poll, i'll postpone it a day for now, but can leave it open until friday if anyone wants me to. i'll leave myself a note in that thread so i don't forget.

seen 10. had chance to see 2 (bay of blood and five dolls) on film and the experience totally changed how i thought about his work...have a feeling almost everything else would go up in my estimation if i had a similar opportunity.
bay of blood
kill baby kill
the whip and the body
giant of marathon
hercules in the haunted world
might try to see one or two more...for anyone who's seen both should i try to prioritize knives of the avenger or erik the conqueror?

To please the majority is the requirement of the Planet Cinema. As far as I'm concerned, I don't make a concession to viewers, these victims of life, who think that a film is made only for their enjoyment, and who know nothing about their own existence.
cool, i think we should check robert mulligan has the views for a poll - i've only seen three. if anyone has 8+ mulligan films seen, please post here!

I saw 9 Mulligan films. Like him. Can see 1 more to be able vote for 5....
I've got 15 Mulligans, which in golf terms would be useful.
still need another member with 8+ mulligan films seen (unless marius has watched another) to start that poll up. i'll give it til tomorrow, but thoxans - if you want to pick a fallback choice, we can go with that if mulligan doesn't work out.

Good ocassion to see old , a little bit forgotten Mulligan movies. Watching today his "The Rat race" and prepared another movie for tommorow, so i `ll be ready to rate Mulligan`s 11 already tommorow.
ah ok, cool, i assume thoxans has seen 10+, so i'll start that poll now - thanks for letting me know!

Seen 3, very eager to watch more
1. Ercole al centro della terra / Hercules in the Haunted World
I recently saw this video essay on one of my favorite scenes in Operazione paura [Kill Baby, Kill], reminded me of that scene in John Carpenter's In The Mouth of Madness where Sam Neill's character is trying to drive out of town and gets stuck in a loop where he keeps winding up back on main street.

I'd love the 3 day extension, if possible, flip! I was hoping to watch a few for the poll, but schoolwork has been intervening until now. No worries if not!
