1997 poll
Choose your favorite films from 1997 (according to IMDb).
– Each person votes for up to 20 movies. Do not feel compelled to fill the maximum allowable number, if you're enthusiastic about fewer than twenty.
– Do not rank the films except the number 1, it gets two points..
Users are urged to post their provisional lists as soon as possible so that others may use them for recommendations. You may, of course, revise your lists at any point prior to the deadline.
Ballots posted by new members who have not participated in other parts of the forum will not be counted.
Deadline for 1997 lists will be Friday, December 1st at approximately 5 PM Pacific Time.

My preliminary pics -- almost all Mexican and Argentine, cuz that's what I've seen... but they're all contenders (except maybe Agujero, which has nothing going for it but a powerhouse lead performance by Roberto Cobo). Quien Diablos... may be the only one that has subs easily available...
El Agujero - Beto Gomez
De Noche Vienes, Esmeralda - Jaime Humberto Hermosillo
Gummo - Korine
Invierno, Mala Vida/Winter Land - Gregorio Cramer
Quien Diablos Es Julieta/Who The Hell Is J - Carlo Marcovich
Santo Luzbel/Saint Lucifer - Miguel Sabido

train of shadows is the most insidious film i've ever seen, it's lodged permanently somewhere in the flicker between my eyes and brain, it comes to mind every time i see a film with a house in, or early film footage, so, a lot. it might have actually taken the place of some neurons. i know javier hated it for, if i recall, forcing a meaning, but javier! that's what it was pointing out!

These matters are best disposed of from a great height. Over water.

anyone with plenty of GBs, please, contribute to the KG SUBS POT of "Picasso in München" (Herbert Achternbusch, 1997)...
https://letterboxd.com/film/picasso-in-munchen/
https://letterboxd.com/film/picasso-in-munchen/
In this surrealist film, director Picasso can awaken from the dead. He steals a painting painted by himself of a couple of wealthy psychiatrists. When Picasso meets Takla Bash, a patient of the psychiatrists, Picasso falls in love. Although it is his own daughter, he remembers an incredible love affair, in which a film with a blue cow plays a role. In the majority of the paintings shown in the film are works of Herbert Achternbusch.

oke, i made my first viewing for the poll.
it is VIVEMENT L'AN 2000 (Stéphane Blanquet).
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1002471/
it's a pity, it's not called VIVEMENT L'AN 2020.
then you would be reading here my extensive conspiracy theory about animation from 1997 foretelling the current lockdown!
but there is "2000" in the title instead and thus it seems the film is just a pointless anecdote about a kiss in outer space with no other significant connotation...
https://youtu.be/DvRqVjnvJOQ
or maybe it was called at first "2020" but then SOMEONE forced the filmmaker to change the title???
or was the director bribed to change the title???
will we ever get to know the truth???

so disappointed with that one to this very day... remember when '97 was gonna be the year of spawn, with a theatrical flick, a tv show, and a playstation game all being released? sigh. the movie was garbage (even if leguizamo was solid), and videogame was crap (bad controls, crummy graphics, and pretty much just plain ol' boring); only the tv show was good (especially that first season), but it never really took off cuz a cartoon aimed at an adult audience based on a comic book aimed at teenage boys that aired on hbo late on friday nights was kind of a hard sell. but i still have all my issues of the comic book in plastic sleeves with the hard cardboard slide-ins, 99% of them in mint condition. have most of the issues through #100, as well as some of the crossover/spin-off stuff. out of curiosity, checked not long ago to see how much they were worth, and the value had increased ~0% in the twenty years i've owned them. thank god i started investing in mutual funds instead

https://youtu.be/N3n_9tfjJY4The little mole tries to get rid of two annoying mushrooms. But a bad conscience can sometimes lead to a better solution.
my conscience is so bad i obliterated youtube apparently. i wouldn't call that a solution. jiri it's broke. maybe a region thing?
