Would appreciate it if you didn't close the poll until tomorrow, gonna squeeze Summertime in at some point today.

1. Lawrence of Arabia
2. Blithe Spirit

Summertime is oftentimes charming and showcases Venice beautifully but it's also pretty mopey and I didn't really vibe with the love story all that much. Solid 3/5 which Blithe Spirit beats through Margaret Rutherford alone.

I"ll put in a good word for RYAN'S DAUGHTER -- some grievous mis-steps, usually involving the bombastic and repetitious score, and John Mills's character who wears out his welcome pronto. Still, the visuals are marvelous, not unexpectedly. That storm sequence is really something. Far from Lean's best, but far from his worst.
These matters are best disposed of from a great height. Over water.

i don't think there are too many surprises in the results - perhaps the distance separating great expectations from the films that followed it, though it still couldn't break into the predictable top three:

results

1. Brief Encounter (1945) -- 32 pts
2. Lawrence of Arabia (1962) -- 28 pts
3. Brige on the River Kwai (1957) -- 26 pts
4. Great Expectations (1946) -- 19 pts
5. Summertime (1955) -- 8 pts
5. Blithe Spirit (1945) -- 8 pts
7. Doctor Zhivago (1965) -- 7 pts
8. Ryan's Daughter (1970) -- 6 pts
9. Hobson's Choice (1954) -- 5 pts
9. The Passionate Friends (1949) -- 5 pts
9. A Passage to India (1984) -- 5 pts
12. Oliver Twist (1948) -- 4 pts
