SCFZ poll: Jacques Feyder

Post by flip »

Polling the films of director Jacques Feyder

The rules:

- your list can include no more than half of the Feyder films you've seen, up to a maximum of 5. So if you've seen seven of his films, for example, you can list only a top 3. It's only if you've seen ten or more of his films than you can list the maximum of five.

- i'll assume ballots are ranked unless you tell me otherwise. unranked ballots are fine.

- deadline for ballots: next Friday, in seven days, whatever day that is

- if anyone is watching films for these polls, then i'll extend the deadline up to three days, if someone requests an extension

- next poll: whoever posts the first ballot in this thread is free to nominate the director we poll next, unless you've nominated in this round already (everyone should get a chance). Already nominated this round: umbugbene, greennui, evelyn, bure, m arkadin, mrcarmady, nrh, brian d

umbugbene created an index on letterboxd of all of our previous polls here: letterboxd.com/umbugbene/list/index-of-all-scfz-director-polls/

one rule for nominees: at least 3 scfzers need to have seen 10+ of a nominee's films, or at least 4 scfzers need to have seen at least 8 of the nom's films, so if it isn't clear if that will be the case, we'll confirm that's true before moving forward

if 24 hours pass after a poll opens, and no one eligible to nominate has posted a ballot, then i'll nominate someone, and then we'll start over, and everyone will be able to nominate again

we'll use the extended rules for this poll:

- if you've seen an odd number of feyder films, you can round up instead of down to determine the length of your ballot (e.g. if you've seen seven, you can vote for four instead of the usual three)

- if you've seen more than ten feyder films, you can vote for more than five. so if you've seen 13, you can vote for up to seven. longer ballots will help ensure we can get to a top ten. i'll only count up to eight films from one ballot though (so you can list a top ten if you want, but #9 and #10 won't get any points)

GRIBICHE

Could rate more, but this one's the best. I wasn't all that taken with VISAGES D'ENFANTS, despite the estimable Jean Forest, but a man at the screening I attended at the Castro was just plain straight up bawling at film's end.

Curious if we have enough views for Vecchiali (I've seen 8) or Obayashi (I've seen 6)

we can definitely check, though if nrh doesn't have ten from vecchiali, i wouldn't be optimistic we'll have enough views to poll him. i've only seen one from each.

if anyone has seen several obayashi or vecchiali films, please post how many here!

aha, if greennui has 10 vecchiali, i'd be happy to poll him just as long as one other person has seen 6+, just so we can be sure we get a few ballots more than one-film long

Need to see more from Feyder, have some at home lying around for years (Carmen, Faces of Children, Anna Christie, etc.), but I've only seen one, CARNIVAL IN FLANDERS, which I didn't enjoy, so no votes from me.
