I'm getting a 40s Hollywood mental illness melodrama vibe or maybe just general noir mystery, but the specific film is escaping me. Maybe The Snake Pit?
if memory serves, mental illness, mystery, melodrama are all good guesses (though perhaps not noir). also not hollywood, it's spanish, very spanish. i love it.
