my bad! added

what # is a good number that everyone can participate? 3? 4?

if we're doing matches, we could do this:

- first round: three matches (managers show three films)
- second round: top four directors move on, two semifinal matches (managers show a fourth film)
- third round: everyone who has participated votes to pick a winner from the two remaining directors

just an idea! i think short < 40 min or 45 min is best

how soon do we need to pick a director? if forced to pick now i'd go with raoul servais or patrick bokanowski, but in the past i've tried to discover someone new (to me) for these cups, so with more time i'd likely find someone else

I realized that I can manage 5 seeing as I'm picking Jordan Belson!

sorry i haven't logged in in a while, but my votes (if you're still taking them):

1. country
2. director
3. year

would ideally prefer doing something that's a combination of country/director(s)/a time period spanning years that's a politically significant epoch, but that'd be hard to define, i understand, so country or director should be fine. a single year would be too restrictive, so it's a distant third for me.

also, anything <=60 minutes sounds good to me.

oonly thing i don't like about elimination is it incentivizes ppl's first three picks to be "potential winners". when there's no elimination i think it gives ppl more freedom to screen literally whatever they wanna show. it was the main reason for switching to a swiss system. also in the past ppl lost interest once their director got eliminated :(

So you limited the cup to 1 director + their shorts only (at times when the forum is dying)?

why do people keep saying this? we just ran the best of the decade poll, and it was by far the biggest poll we've ever run. the forum is evolving, it's not dying.

i can do five, but i kind of chose my director with the thought in mind that we were showing 3 or 4 instead, did we ever reach a decision about that?
