My initial impression was that Eggers had spent too much time watching Tarr, Hour of the Wolf and various German silent films, but it ended up doing things I didn't expect. It feels both anachronistic and modern at the same time, which isn't easy to achieve.

It is a far more satisfying mix of genre and 'art' cinema than crap like A Ghost Story.
