Letterboxd Stats Showdown: Francis Ford Coppola/Martin Scorsese
How does it work?
I'll read data from the letterboxd accounts of SCFZ champs. I'll then use this data to answer a number of questions: Which Coppola/Scorsese movie was rated the highest by champs? Which was lowest-rated? Which champ has seen the most from Coppola/Scorsese? What are the movie that generated wildly different ratings? ETC.
When will I do this?
Friday December 6
What do you need to do?
Go to your letterboxd account. Rate/log Coppola/Scorsese movies you've seen.
New to SCFZ? Have a letterboxd account? Wanna play?
Let me know

In the ultimate showdown, each champ gets one vote: Your vote goes to the director whose movies you gave a higher average rating to. If you gave both actors the same average rating or you're one of those people who don't believe in ratings, your vote goes to no one.
Place your bets! Here are the questions - answer as many as you want:
1. Who wins, and by how much? (e.g. Lang + 7)
2. What Coppola movie did champs rate the highest?
3. What Scorsese movie did champs rate the highest?
4. Which champ has the seen the most Coppola movies? How many did said champ see?
5. Which champ has the seen the most Scorsese movies? How many did said champ see?
The winner gets to pick the next showdown.

Originally I voted Scorsese, but then I thought about it and realized that so many of Coppola's views will be Godf1, Godf2, and Acopolypse Now that it might overcome people's ACTUAL preference for Scorsese

is it even worth rating the 2 scorsese, 4 FFC that i've seen?
Every rating matters! We wouldn't want to have the wrong director declared winner. This is SCFZ, we have a responsibility for complete accuracy in important matters of aesthetic and moral judgement. Our legion of silent admirers depend on us!
ok since it's so important i went & rated them and was unfortunately inaccurately generous to dracula because gary oldman in that was all my teenage aches made unholy flesh.

I'll go contrarian with FFC and hope for a win since after watching The Night Visitor I somehow decided I want to see a Max Von Sydow vs Klaus Kinski match.
Coppola +2
Godfather 2
Raging Bull
Are there other questions we could ask instead of the who's seen the most maybe?
(Man, looking at that letterboxd header pic for The Outsiders really makes me want to watch it again, though maybe not for the best of reasons. That cast, those oh so actorly emotions just brings out the Outsider in me I guess. Stay gold, Ponyboy...stay gold...)

That would be epic I might vote for that if I win too (with credit to you of course). Unless it's possible to stage my dream match-up - a mega battle of the Nouvelle Vague: Right Bank vs. Left Bank.

It's a smart bet to take here imo. After thinking about it, I'm convinced that the crowd (including me, initially) is overvaluing the extent to which people's preference for Scorsese will bear out in the numbers. Sure, people like more Scorsese movies more, but Scorsese has a bigger, more broadly celebrated output, and people tend to have seen more of his flicks. And maybe even have seen more of his stinkers I would reckon. Like has anyone here actually even seen Jack? I guess we'll find out in a couple of weeks!

kanafani, as a rule, i don't do star ratings on letterboxd other than 5s and 0.5s!
I'll DM you what my ratings would likely be for Coppola movies, but feel free to ignore that if that's too annoying.

That would force me to manually overwrite values in my data, which is hard, tedious and error-prone. Just enter those ratings to letterboxd... You can revert to 5s and 0.5s after I get the data on Friday. I promise I won't tell anyonejosiahmorgan11 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 8:25 pm kanafani, as a rule, i don't do star ratings on letterboxd other than 5s and 0.5s!

OK, I fetched the data, so feel free to revert to your Manichean rating system.josiahmorgan11 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2019 12:48 am Sure thing. Will do so now. Can you let me know once it's all done?
sorry for the delay. Took me a while to figure out that the code was failing because a certain someone recently dropped '420' from their user name.
