I got six. I've probably seen the Chaplin & Keaton shorts, but too long ago to recall. Tougher choice for the #1 now, since I've recently seen the Sjostrom - wow! - but the great Chaplin's least-seen masterpiece is an old favorite. It's also, if any of you've ever read Anderson & Richie's Japanese Film, one of the faves of the early Japanese directors, especially Ozu.

I'm traveling but should be able to see a few more. For now:

Louis Feuillade’s 1923 feature Le Gamin de Paris is likewise unexceptional, though it’s of interest for showing his abandonment of complex staging and his conversion to American-style cutting, including angled shot/reverse-shots. (Of Feuillade’s 1923 installment film Vindicta, we can’t speak; we haven’t been able to see it.)

secret trick - when there's spanish subs, choose auto-translate to your chosen lang in the subs button - into english it's not perfect, but for the most part quite understandable, esp for silents when there's not much to translate. that peliculas mudas channel is a godsend. don't get it shut down, i've only got about 300 or so left to watch on there!

A COUPLE OF DOWN AND OUTS (Walter Summers)

Another one of those PUNQ 1-stars that I quite liked. Simple story: unemployed ex-soldier sees the horse he rode all through the war in a group that's to be sent to the slaughterhouse, so he steals it and hides out in the house of a (naturally) lovely and sympathetic young woman. It is not an exceptionally well-made film, but has a simple charm.

Here's someone who thought even more highly of the film than I did:

"A Couple of Down and Outs" [1923] is the second known film to be directed by Walter Summers, a man who went on to direct a further 36 pictures between 1923 and 1941. Anyone who thought Steven Spielberg’s "War Horse" was lacking a certain je ne sais quoi should definitely give this film a look as it presents the story of an ex-soldier and his war horse with a great deal more power and feeling than last year’s winter blockbuster...
Out of all the many films watched at The British Silent Film Festival, "A Couple of Down and Outs" was undoubtedly the most reverent and moving. The opening sequence, set on Remembrance Day, includes very pointed close-up shots of a war monument engraved with the words ‘The Glorious Dead’, and the endless sea of now-familiar crosses that mark the graves of those lost in the war. Furthermore the film includes some hauntingly realistic depictions of the front line that are sensitively shot, given that this film was released when feelings about the war were still very raw the sensitive handling of its subject matter is a key element of this film’s success. In addition to addressing the difficulty of moving on after the war this film also touches on the economic climate of the time and the moral dilemma nations faced when dealing with animals “broken by the war” covering a lot of scope in its modest run time. watched henry king's the white sister. looks pretty, ronnie is adorable, but i cannot stand bloody lillian saintly virginal anti-womanflesh-hood child-eyed all suffering gish. so much, that beyond the sadeian justine fantasies such filthy holy mary portrayals of women invoke, i was completely rooting for evil step sister.

but aside from that, lovely film.

and i've got a sodding pickford to sit through yet, just because i love lubitsch....
