Re: 2021 Cup

I'd vote for no distinction between features and shorts - whether we do genre/nation/whatever else, I'm in favor of both features and shorts being allowed.

Re: 2021 Cup

I'm never too optimistic about the level of participation, but I'll participate as a manager and endeavor to watch all the movies no matter what the structure is. Genres was very fun last time!

Re: 1997 poll

Watched Bressane's Miramar , which might be his most accessible film that I've seen (all relative, of course). Despite the typically experimental, skeletal style it's basically an autobiographical Kunstlerroman in structure, which also means it's useful for understanding the artistic reference point...

Re: SCFZ poll: Bertrand Tavernier

Haven't seen any Tavernier, but he strikes me as an interesting figure. I doubt I'll get a chance to watch it for this, but I'm curious if anyone has thoughts on My Journey Through French Cinema ? I'm a fan, and I think you'd like it too - as the title suggests, it's a very personal look at the his...

Re: 1915 poll

One of Irma Vep's disguises in Les Vampires is named Juliette Berteaux. Juliet Berto (nee Annie Jamet) presumably got her surname from her marriage to Michel Berto, but I wonder if her first name is an homage to Irma. Certainly Feuillade was a touchstone for Celine and Julie and many other films fro...

I'm also a big fan of Senselessness - the only other Castellanos Moya I've read is La Diabla en el Espejo (only available in Spanish when I read it, but I think it's available in translation now), which is not quite at the same level but still very good.
