Re: what are you reading?
In a feat of courage, after it stood in the library making me feel guilty of buying it and not starting it for over 2 years, I started Infinite Jest . I always feel compelled to buy this mammoth novels, but when it comes to start reading them, I look at the page count and end up with something short...

I don't have much to add to the discussion. I agree with the criticism for Letter from the wife, but still liked it a bit better than Nancy Drew.

Reading "The name of the game is death" by Dan J. Marlowe. I'm finding it hard to leave the book. It has great rhythm and the style is brutal.

Re: The Makioka Sisters (1983) vs. Requiem for a Heavyweight (1962)
x1962 I enjoyed both movies, so thanks to Bure and DT. for the great recommendations. In the end I went with Requiem because of the strength of the performances and the way the movie walks the fine line between hope and fatalism until the end, without falling in excesive melodrama and without patron...

I'm currently reading Balzac's "Letters of two brides". Only a couple of pages in, so I have nothing to say about it at the moment.

Re: what are you reading?
I'm reading Gibson's Neuromancer. This was prompted by a chat we had with some friends about Cyberpunk and the new Blade Runner movie. Actually it's a reread, since I've first read it a long time ago when a I was in my teens. It could also be considered a first time read, since the first time I read...

There's a looooong list of movies I wanted to watch but couldn't. I feel like I only got a glimpse of 1940. My native language is Spanish (or the version of it that we speak in Buenos Aires, that all our latin brothers love to make fun of). The only other language I can read and write decently is English. I've tried studying French, but I don't have the energy to commit to studying a language long enough ...

There are still quite a few things that haven't come out here in Argentina (most of the Golden Globe/would be Oscar nominees). This year I saw in theaters movies from 2016... :? :? :? But judging from what is supposed to be 2019 releases: Where’d You Go, Bernadette (Linklater) The Modern Ocean (Carr...

I created the list for the top 100 of the 40s in Letterboxd, originally for my own private use (I'm trying to watch 100 movies from the 40s this year), but I thought maybe it would be good to share. https://letterboxd.com/matiasalbertott/list/scfz-letterboxd-top-100-the-40s-2018-edition/ Let me know...

Amazing work!! Love all the stats and different lists derived of them. I will make good use of the top 100 of the 40s.
I seem to be very popular in the numbers, or maybe I have a very standard taste.

I watched "The lobster" from Lanthimos yesterday, and I thought it was interesting, with some nice cinematography. It's the second Lanthimos I've seen and I have find his dialogues and the acting direction a bit off-putting. It worked in "The lobster" for me, but I didn't liked t...
