Re: Last Watched
It’s only January 7th, but I’ve already seen my first masterpiece of 2021: Jacques feyder’s la Kermesse heroique, an absolute delight, and every bit as good as anything Renoir was doing around the same time.

Joris Ivens' Une histoire de vent is at the place for those who have not seen it.
Also at the place, Talking To Strangers (Rob Tregenza), a great, inventive and not-much-seen independent American film, a favorite of our friend Jonathan Rosenbaum.

Re: 2020 SCFZ Letterboxd Statpalooza
OK friends, the stats kitchen is closed.
I generated a bunch of lists on letterboxd based on the results. I'll be mining them for viewing possibilities throughout the year.
We'll do this again at the end of 2021, hopefully, maybe, who knows.

OK probably last one: The top SCFZ movies depend on the minimum number of ratings. Here's the top 40 for minimum values of 10, 5, 4 and 3 ratings.

Re: 2020 SCFZ Letterboxd Statpalooza
Thanks for this kanafani, I always love these sorta things What was necessary for 1904 to have a fav film? The Impossible Voyage has 10+ SCFZ views. Is it the lack of another film from which it's distinguished? I limited it to movies with at least 5 ratings. So Impossible Voyage has many views, but...

Pick the highest rated movie for each year., starting at the year 1895. List where that movie falls in the all-time rankings.
The only year for which I don't have enough ratings is 1904.

Re: What did you read in 2020?
This year I read about 30% of Ulysses before I gave up. Not bad! My biggest disappointment was Thomas Mann's Doctor Faustus. Just found it so tedious. Granted, I know nothing about the inner workings of music, so that does not help. But the thing felt so... lifeless. Disappointing because The Magic ...

December 2020: Passing (Nella Larsen) 4.5/5 Human Matter: A Fiction (Rodrigo Rey Rosa) 2.5/5 - I don't think the diary structure works well here. Quite dull, especially those dreams. One stat I've always been interested in is the widest spread anyone gives to a single director. How often does a particular "champ" give 5.0 and 0.5 to different films by the same director? I suppose people could answer that for themselves without Kanafani running a complicated query. For...
