Re: 2013 poll

Thanks for bringing it up. I saw it and I'm glad I did, even though it won't make my final list. 8-) Wont make your final list!! What? Watch it again! Nah, I'm just glad you didn't find it a waste of time. I'm a sucker for "the world is an awful place and people are terrible" movies, but ...

Re: SCFZ poll: John Frankenheimer

We do seem to be getting to the point where we're going to have trouble finding directors with decent bodies of work that enough people will have seen to make for a useful ranking, but the polls are still enjoyable enough. At 100 it might be a good time to change things up though. (How is an open qu...

Re: SCFZ poll: John Frankenheimer

I have ten Oshiis, but that includes Ghost in the Shell 2.0 which is more or less an enhanced version of the original more than a different movie entirely.

Re: Letterboxd Stats showdown: jimmy Stewart / John Wayne

Stewart should win, by talent, but I'm gonna bet Wayne under the assumption more of his lesser works have been skipped than Stewart's and give him a 17-13 nod. (As much just to have some vote go Wayne's way)

Wayne: The Man Who
Stewart: Shot Liberty Valance

Probably me

Re: Best films seen in 2018 regardless of year

I haven't kept track of when I watched things, my memory for dates isn't great and letterboxd is no help since I rated everything this year, but these are some of the best things I do remember seeing: Fase (2002) Theirry De May A filmed series of four knock out dances by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker w...

Re: Letterboxd Stats showdown: jimmy Stewart / John Wayne

History isn't quite so neat as that, Heston was on the front lines for the fight over civil rights for blacks among other things good and bad. http://images.rcp.realclearpolitics.com/204543_5_.jpg I think even the best of us hold the roles actors play as somehow more representative of the people pla...

Re: Letterboxd Stats showdown: jimmy Stewart / John Wayne

Might not want to dig into the histories of a lot of old stars, Stewart and Grant included. Many of them aren't what I'd call role models, to be nice about it.

Re: The Films of 2018

I've only seen six 2018 movies according to Letterboxd. The rough order of appreciation: Annihilation Isle of Dogs Padmavati Black Panther Deadpool 2 Avengers: Infinity War The first four, at least, I found some reasonable interest in, for differing reasons, so it hasn't been a total waste of time a...

Re: Banner competition

I'm fine with leaving the low-fi behind for the new site, but the designation "Super Champion Film Zone" is sorta innately low-fi in its, I hope, ironic conceit. I've no problem with that, but don't really want the name or the site to be taken too seriously either lest the whole pretentiou...

No need to change the name, it's a fine one. I guess I just never noticed the title at the last site and was curious.

Re: Forum Requests

Can the directors folder be changed to Directors/Cast/Crew or folders or subforums be added for those latter two categories for posts on the careers of others besides just directors?
Also, Filmmaker's City? What's the story with that?

Re: 2013 poll

I should warn you it's animated, but different in tone from most animated movies, more a bleak and brutal noirish thing rather than especially fantastic. Here's the trailer: http://youtu.be/a5AFq3NezKA I would say that The Fake is probably the only animated movie I would even chance on recommending ...

No one else is giving Yeon Sang-ho's The Fake any notice? Not seen or not liked? It's easily my favorite of the year, nothing else so far even close.

Re: Letterboxd Stats showdown: jimmy Stewart / John Wayne

If you sort by popularity, it looks like the line that has Raquel! and everything after could probably be skipped for Wayne unless Punq or David Burgess are in on the poll. Those movies have less than 8 viewers registered with ratings. A lot above that are pretty iffy too, but there is the occasiona...

Re: Bugs & Suggestions

All I'd like to see is a way to switch to a dark theme, the black letters on white hurts my eyes. I guess I spend too much time in the dark, but I suppose that isn't inappropriate for a movie site.
