Re: 2013 Poll 2.0
This was an extremely rough year for me, neither' 'highbrow' nor 'lowbrow' products were hitting the mark. I definitely watched too many CGI blockbusters this month. The best I can do: Djinn- Hooper Hard To Be A God Norte, The End Of History - Diaz Nymphomaniac 1/2 P3nd3j05 Prologue to The Great Des...

Has James Franco been cancelled really hard? Cuz I can't think of an other reason why Sam Raimi could do a prequel to Wizard Of Oz... for Disney Studios... and it could sink without a trace. Watching it tonightish.

I try to listen to Trout Mask Replica at least once a year; this year I discovered that it works really well as soundtrack to silent westerns.

Yeah, I was surprised myself -- general opinion on it doesn't seem that favorable, but it had so much going for it.
EDIT: I guess the nay-sayers are noir fanbros, protecting their franchise.

Singing Behind Screens - Olmi ... if anyone has a woman-pirates itch to scratch. That Day - Ruiz -- one of my five top favorite RR.s? Pretty sure it is, as sure as I can be about anything with Ruiz. Penj E Asr/At Five In The Afternoon - Makhmalbaf -- all about a high school student trying to imagine...

Stupidly Freudian last night, but I. Am. Not. Ashamed. I was outdoors somewhere, hilltop vibe, with someone I felt a filial attachment toward... but he disappointed me by putting all is attention toward a mother rabbit and her newborns that he was carrying in a wooden box. Later I was somewhere else,...

Re: CoMo No. 9: Czechia (January, 2023)
Colonel Redl (of the 1931 title) was a RW Austrio-Hungarian military commander and big ol' queen; his story was treated more explicitly in the post-60s a least once, though they seemed to muff the actual nature of his gender-nonconformity. One of those movies that Karl liked better than I did -- sha...

Last night I was piloting a tiny helicopter with four schoolchildren; we drove around the corner of a parking structure and they oohed and ahhed at the view, like it was a spectacular tracking shot.

My God, Satansbraten by Fassbinder! All those people are so horrible, and it's so goddamned funny! I wouldn't be surprised if John Waters took notes o this one for Polyester, but it goes far beyond that in awfulness.

Re: CoMo No. 9: Czechia (January, 2023)
"Sherlock Holmes" was a real narrative trope, wasn't it -- for 1937-poll I watched a German movie about someone impersonating Holmes for fun and profit, and yesterday a Czech silent -- 1923 -- called The Kidnapping Of Fux, The Banker, tat likewise had a Sherlock Holmes trying to track down...

Oh, Greg, I hear you about "sorting" dreams. There's a growing undertone of that in my stuff too; in my case, I think it comes from spending too much time online and conflating experiential narratives with cybernetic data-processing.

My overnight memory has gone fuzzy again, but I captured one fun detail from last night's adventures:
The Marx Brothers buried a coffin full of knives. I think it was a magic ritual of some sort.
