Movies rated by my students

For the last 3 years I taught a Film History & Appreciation class at a community college in the U.S. Every semester I showed a different set of films (repeating only The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Meshes of the Afternoon). At the midpoint and last day of each semester I asked my students to rat...

Re: 1994 poll

1. Sátántangó
2. The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
3. Whispering Pages
4. Through the Olive Trees

Should I include Parts 1-4 of The Kingdom (Riget) by Lars von Trier? It would be #1 on my list, but I prefer to group all 8 parts as one film completed in 1997.

Re: Banner competition

So far I like Patrick's punk banners (especially the yellow one) and Rischka's Three Landscapes and the floating woman. The latter reminds me of Millais' painting of Ophelia, which appears in A Place in the Sun & Lars von Trier's Melancholia. No idea why the halo is floating above the face... ma...

Re: Welcome!

Welcome to Evelyn & welcome back to everyone else. The new forum coincides with my move out of the U.S.A. (Good riddance to Trump.) Sorry I didn't pitch in for the costs... I can give extra when it's time to renew.

Re: 2013 poll

Just realized I needed to transfer my list from the old board. No changes so far. I liked all of these, but they drop off fast after the first two: 1. Enemy (Villeneuve) 2. The Counselor (Scott) 3. Borgman (van Warmerdam) 4. Escape from Tomorrow (Moore) 5. The Lunchbox (Batra) 6. Like Father, Like S...

Re: SCFZ poll: John Frankenheimer

Seen 13 Frankenheimers 1. Seconds 2. The Manchurian Candidate 3. Seven Days in May 4. All Fall Down 5. Ronin Great choice for a start to Round 4, Flip. I vote to keep these polls going for a while, at least to five rounds if it doesn't meet too much resistance. As long as we haven't done Bresson, Mi...
