Favourite Albums of 2023

Figured now's a good time to post this, as well as anyone else wanting to post highlights from this year. Here's my top 10 with links of some tracks in the spoilers (although #10 is a dj mix) 10. 40ozLuv - Hard Dance 183 (Hard Dance) 9. Bibiza - Wiener Schickeria (Falco for zoomers) 8. Jungstötter -...

Re: Last Watched

Hard to Die AKA Sorority House Massacre 3 would either be the best or the most frustrating experience depending on your style of humour. It beats jokes to death to such an extreme degree... literally over a third of the film is dedicated to doing that for one joke. It's also so male gaze-y that it s...

Re: 2001 Poll 2.0

Caught Between Worlds was quite well done, but not nearly good enough to make my list. I do love early CGI, but the vibe of this kind of felt wrong. It was more of a fever dream, which I prefer something more chill in the first place, and it lacked the top tier surrealism that you would see in somet...

Re: Everything is Political

I don't like Hamas. But they're a liberation party. And to ignore the colonial context of Israel is intellectual malpractice. Hamas exists to liberate Palestine from Israel. And all liberation parties are terrorists to those currently in power. I think Hamas has made great tactical and moral errors...

Re: Everything is Political

I've had former friends agree with me on how evil Israel is, until Hamas did that attack. Then celebs starting posting and those same friends would read them then tell me "Palestine has to lose because of Hamas". It's good riddance at this point tbh. And I thought people lacked intelligenc...

Re: Everything is Political

Yea I am huge into Palestine for years now, and this obviously made things a lot more serious. However, I've lost a lot of friends over it already (I'm pro-Palestine, and although Hamas did a terrible thing I saw it as inevitable pushback), so it's best not to post about it elsewhere.

Re: 2001 Poll 2.0

AI has a good shot at becoming my #1 of the year tbh. So much dread in that film, but in a great way. What a performance by Haley Joel Osment too. Southern Comfort was also definitely worth watching. A documentary about a trans man dying of ovarian cancer, and is basically a slice of life depiction ...

Re: Last Watched

Purgatory is a straight to tv western that gave away its twist in an unfortunate way, but in terms of being fun it's definitely successful in doing that. It feels a lot like a very cheesy episode of Twilight Zone. I'd definitely recommend it to fans of weird westerns.

My all time favourite album :)

It reached #100 of all time on the RYM charts, but when that happened there was the brigade and it already fell down to #116.

Re: Last Watched

Knock at the Cabin was definitely worth watching for Bautista's subdued performance. I did enjoy the set up of it too. However, they literally spent minutes explaining the meaning of it, which was a bit much to me, especially when I'm sure a lot of folks will know what it represents just by reading ...

It's kind of stressing me out after 50 hours or so. It feels like there's TOO much to do and it's starting to overwhelm me. Still, it's fantastic. It's not the best zelda, but it's certainly close.

Back when it came out I REALLY loved Possessor. It was by Cronenberg's son, and it made him a director I really wanna look out for, and honestly thought he might eventually be in the same league as his dad. I was really hyped to see Infinity Pool. The first bit was fantastic. Showing the contrast be...

Finally a classic I've postponed for very long... Kurosawa's Ikiru . Liked it a lot, particularly everything surrounding and about Takashi Shimura's performance. Such a grey and belittled man trying to find his worth, he is so convincing that his character ends up even a bit exasperating and I feel...

The Exigency - The outsider art version of a blockbuster. It's better than most blockbusters thanks to its action sequences, and its subversion of tropes. It looks cheap, but the self-aware, absurdist humour was perfect. You can see the trailer here, but most of the humour is not there... it was a h...

It's a longish video, but it seems to be a well-done video at least, with tons of sources. Anyone here can support these claims? If you just want a summary, apparently Zelenskyy was the catalyst that caused the war. The presidents before were pro-Russia, but he was the most populist president that w...

The Wolf of Snow Hollow was the perfect parody of those square face, huge jaw, alpha male lead type of films. A comedic horror with a cop that's incredibly oblivious and inept. It goes for that "quirky indie" tone but it suited the film very well.
