Re: SCFZ poll: Shah Rukh Khan
this is really tough for me. a combination of having grown up watching every srk movie and being old enough to where i can't reliably recall a bunch of them. hoping to watch/rewatch some over this long weekend. so might edit. rab ne bana di jodi kabhi haan kabhi naa main hoon na kal ho na ho asoka s...

Re: SCFZ poll: Hrishikesh Mukherjee
Not sure if it will work but my first pick is Dominik Graf. Will come up with some alternates as well soon. I've watched 9 from graf but can watch another one soon if that's a catch.

Re: what are you reading?
Took me months for complicated reasons that have little to do with the book itself but finally devoured the second half of Enrique Vila-Matas's Mac's Problem this weekend. The book is really funny but also it's like having your favorite most well-read uncle summarize a bunch of canon short stories ...

Re: top 100 poll - SCFZ fifth annual
I don't want to get into it but am fine not having my ballot counted. I enjoyed the process of making the list regardless. Also, tastes and proclivities can shift a lot over time in terms of art as I'm sure everyone here understands. You can get into a movement or period or genre/subgenre and so on ...

Re: 1989 poll
Beijing Watermelon may be one of the most wonderful films I've seen in a while. Lest that make it sound like a cute film, it's not that at all. It's sad and very complicated. Does really dense frames with layers with a real sensibility and meaning. Interesting that it released the same year as City ...

Re: indian popular cinema
Its from amit chaudhuri's friend of my youth. Tough to pin down the shape of the book even after finishing it but a) generous in its descriptions of food and restaurants which is catnip for me ofc and b) I think any reservations I have about it are things he's poking at completely intentionally. I m...
