Re: Films and Directors You'd Imagine You Would Like
thx greenui! Fascination is a good entry point, next would be The Nude Vampire or Requiem for a Vampire in order to get a taste of his offbeat, stripped down vampire films littered with his recurring obsessions (abandoned cemeteries, chateaux ruins, female doublets, the beach at Dieppe and so forth).

Re: 1935 Poll
Pluto's Judgment Day exemplifies something that's really jumped out at me so far in my 1935 viewing: just how thoroughly and loudly 1935 US cinema is letting it be known that they're on the side of law and order, that Hollywood will henceforth be telling ostensibly impressionable viewers that Crime...

Pluto gets sent to cat hell for crimes against felinity. Neat and kinda hardcore for a Disney short.

The Steel Animal (Willy Zielke) - A curious film. A combination of experimental montage sequences of trains, hokey historical reenactments and homoerotic scenes of bare-chested railworkers bonding and caressing steel rails. Top Hat (Mark Sandrich)
The Devil Is a Woman (Josef von Sternberg)
Sazen Tange and the Pot Worth a Million Ryo (Sadao Yamanaka)

Re: Cinema, Italian-style
I enjoy Italian cinema from time to time but the frequent ropey dubbing in many films has always been a pet peeve of mine.

The Fire Within
Seen 10.
Despite directing two of my all time favourite films I''m fairly indifferent to the rest of his oeuvre.
