Re: 1989 poll

Four for me too.

But you know what? It'll only make me feel like I've got more time so I'll end up postponing things even more, and once again and I'll not see everything I planned to see. :D

I also have tons of leftover unseen films every poll.

Re: Guess the movie!

. Does every picture posted have to be an exact, full film frame as it appears when watching that film, or can that frame be edited to show whatever part of a film frame the poster wants to show? I would personally say steer away from editing a full frame. Yeah, they're hard enough for me as it is!

Re: 1989 poll

. I'm still watching Wiseman's Near Death . Had to break it into sections and I think I'll get to the end of it tomorrow, so three sessions should do it. It's so good. Another thing is it's helped restore (some of) my faith in humanity, that there are people out there who do their best everyday, wh...

Wiseman's Near Death is incredibly moving. I'm only 30 minutes into it, there's a doctor talking to a patient, breaking some terrible diagnosis to him, and I'm close to tears.

It's absolutely horrifying, rischka, we have the same kinds of deplorable people here too, except they're not yet as dominant. I'm so ashamed and sad.

I wish I could see the Claire Denis on the big screen. Beau travail, of course, but those other two of hers I saw that are set in Africa, White Material and Chocolat, were vivid and very atmospheric, too. I recommend them if you haven't seen them.

Re: Vilnius International Film Festival 2019

This is very subjective, so take with a pinch of salt:

Of those I've seen:

Excellent:

Burning (Lee Chang-dong)

Good:

Capernaum (Nadine Labaki)
Shoplifters (Hirokazu Koreeda)

Not good:

Beautiful Boy (Felix van Groeningen)

Re: Television

. Saw the first series of Fleabag (BBC) last Friday. I enjoyed it, though the heroine irritated me at times. The constant breaking of the 4th wall is overdone and very quickly lost its humouristic value for me. I nearly abandoned the series at one point but kept watching it once Olivia Colman began...

Someone posted a pic with a naked man in it during the early days of the first SCFZ board. Actually I think it must still be there. I remember thinking "How come this hasn't been deleted yet, or at least commented on, by the mods?"

. Jusqu'à la garde aka Custody (Legrand, 2017) 7/10 Pretty harrowing finale, well-acted and directed throughout. Quite Dardenne-esque. I was absolutely sure someone at SCFZ mentioned it a few days ago, otherwise I would never have watched it. Maybe I saw it mentioned on Letterboxd? :? .

Some decidedly kooky stuff and slightly bizarre characters and situations crept into many independent (and even a few mainstream) American movies from roughly the mid 80s to the late 80s and the first few years of the 90s. I'm a big fan of them and consider them almost a mini genre unto themselve...
