This must be one of those movies that's consciously looking backwards to the earliest French industry, right? And my favorite bit was the scene where they carefully set up a proscenium arch on the screen... and then staged all the action in front of it.

Looking forward to that one! And also the Perret I turned up, but I'm gonna do Sultane D'Amour tonight.

Family melodrama/war movie, but noir-adjacent: Address Unknown by William Cameron Menzies (and shot by Rudolph Mate!), 1944, is pretty amazing; the big suspense/action sequences are so over-the-top hyperbolic that they seem like nightmares, totally divorced from any feeling of 'realism'. Mixed feelings about it (mostly positive, but never *wildly* positive), but Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 11/9 is timely and topical in this moment.
