The fewer rules the better, if you ask me. The worst that can happen is they cancel each other out.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what a 1939 beatnik looks like.

Blizzard, eh? It's super-cold and super-cloudy here too, prime snow-threat weather; we might actually get us some.

One thing Bure didn't mention when outlining the game-plan … and that no-one mentioned when talking about manager's strategies for choosing films... is that the less well-liked movie in any pair-up recives a black mark that contributes toward that manager being eliminated rom the game. So it's "...

I feel like if we have a cup running, Movie Club is superfluous, it would just be duplicating the same dynamic of "one person chooses a movie, a group of people watch it."

^The Covered Wagon was high-canon for a long time (or at least seemed that way to me) so I was surprised at not seeing it getting much attention here and now. I look forward to watching it.

Re: 1923 poll

Warning: the high-glam restoration of Black Oxen (Frank Lloyd, USA) with the big damn watermark kicks out after 23 minutes and there ain't no more. Minutes 23 - 58 (of 70) can be watched on a crap-looking TV rip (best option seems to b the 1.27.40 version) but I'm not sure it's worth the trouble. 3 ...

I was so taken with the shot/reverse shot that I didn't think about anything else. But in any case the (ostensible?) back story is something I wasn't aware of; I read it as unmotivated mischief identical to Arroseur Arrose.

Adam's Rib - de Mille, USA

Thematics familiar from other de Mille rom-coms, but there's a proto-Bringing Up Baby subplot that's pretty thrilling in it's prototypicality.

Re: Distinguishing b/w Soviet Russia and Soviet non-Russia

Me, I consider everything that was produced in those territories before the Union (SSR) dissolved to be Soviet, although "Soviet (region)" may be a meaningful distinction to make in many cases. Anything (f.e.) Belorus-derived in the content or pedigree of a 1962 movie is still going to be ...
