This was amazing!! Thanks for all your hard work, kanafani. I'm going to go watch this Chain Gang Mickey Mouse short and Hedgehog in the Fog now, because Matias (my champ-match) has given them 5/5 and I hadn't even heard of them!

Re: SCFZ poll: Robert Bresson

Lancelot du Lac is doing well. That's actually by far my least favourite Bresson, but I saw it almost 8 years ago so it could use a reevaluation. Surprised that Une Femme Douce isn't doing better. One of those classic experiences that made me ashamed of my behaviour as a man and inspired me to striv...

This seems like the appropriate place to ask, and I suppose we can avoid delays if people plan in advance whom they'll pick. So: who's seen 8+ or 10+ Masaki Kobayashi flicks?

Gonna watch Back to God's Country later today

With respect to Paul Auster... you've read Moon Palace? One of my 2019 goals is to convince as many people as possible to read that book. It's not that it's my favourite book ever--it's my 6th favourite--it's just that I can't even envision anyone, or at least any straight/straightish male, not seei...

Mysterious Skin - the perfect Christmas Eve movie, obviously. I've upgraded this from my #7 oat to my #3 oat - now my favourite American movie ever.

Everyone should watch this movie. Alone. Watch it alone. It's an important experience to have, I would think, for any human being

Re: AFI's 100 Greatest American Movies of all Time - Your Alternative

In AFI'S original list from 1998 you have a film like The Third Man , which had no US financing whatsoever - they could have equally included Satyajit Ray's Pather Panchali or Jean Renoir's Rules of the Game . How it got on the list is a mystery. This is the same country that's nicknamed Canadian-b...

I don't think that sharing new releases is necessarily more illegal/risky than sharing older films, especially the arthouse stuff we watch... but am I out of the loop on something, where are you guys getting new releases?

Re: Banner competition

No, banners don't need to be exactly 1080X180! They just need to be, like, that general idea... wide, short strips for the top of the page. If it's 1250x250 or 1000x210 or whatever that's all fine
