Looking for some Golden Age of Indian Cinema

Post by Curtis, baby »

Trying to find three flicks that are not on KG:

Dharti Ke Lal (Khwaja Ahmad Abbas)
Gunga Jumna (Nitin Bose) (Dilip Kumar project)
Umar Marvi (Shaikh Hassan) <-- actually a Pakistani film. Apparently the first Sindhi film ever made

Anyone have these or know where to get them?

Great, thanks. That's the one I wanted to see the most.

Any idea on the Pakistani film?

Two other questions. Is Pakistani film generally accessible? And is there any Indian-made Sindhi-language or specifically Sindhi cinema?

it's up in the resources folder.

don't see umar marvi popping up anywhere. newer pakistani film and tv serials are pretty available (it's a thriving industry) but anything older seems hard to come by, at least with subtitles. as far as i know no sindhi langauge film industry within india, and can't think of any stray art house movies either... indiancine lists 24 movies but i've not heard of any of them https://indiancine.ma/grid/year/language==Sindhi

Thanks, will DL.

That's too bad. I am half Sindhi. I know we're usually lawyers or economists, but I was hoping there'd be at least one prominent Hindu Sindhi filmmaker. The guy most frequently listed as director on the site you linked to, Dharam Kumar, doesn't even appear to be close to the most prominent Dharam Kumar talked about on the Internet. I'll probably never get a chance to see these movies... who knows what the future holds I guess
