MY NAME IS NOBODY (Florentia Ikonomidou, 2016) #CoMoΕλλάδα

“My name is Νobody” is borrowed from Odyssey. “Nobody” is the name that Odysseus yelled to the Cyclope when he was asked who he is. The name in Greek exists in masculine and feminine forms, and I of course use the feminine. My animation story is about my personal Odyssey in which I alternate the roles of Odysseus, Circe, Penelope, or the crew. I often refer to the work of artists of the past. You can find such references in my animation (Uccello, Friedrich, Hokusai, Faidimos-the archaic sculptor).

A building which has stood since at least the fourteenth century, its contents, and a strange attempt at preservation. Light falls into the dark interior, illuminating it directly and by reflection; at the same time the decay of the building offers views out. An ancient structure and a modern one interact as the sun works its way round each day.

Under German occupation, many movies made in the prewar years were lost, not simply because of the destruction by the Nazi forces occupying
public buildings that housed archival material, but also because of the intense lice epidemic that had infected the urban population of Athens. The
Germans had confiscated the city’s supply of soap and in desperation most of the existing films were melted for their silver to make combs and lice removers.
