My latest subs:
Šije aka Morra (Nikola Babić, 1971) - 11 minutes

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sI40qmPd_YM

Morra is a hand game played around Mediterranean, which is also called "Šijavica" (or shorter, Šije) in Dalmatia and its hinterland where this short documentary was filmed - more precisely in the town of Imotski.

While it looks hilarious and that these people are fighting (or in need of getting psychiatric help), Morra is actually centuries-old game which is sadly on the brink of disappearing. What indeed amazes me most, is how these players can see and even count all the fingers (points, that is) during such rapid pace of game.

Of course 'Rock paper scissors' is probably first thing you think of when watching this, if you never heard of morra a.k.a. šije before.

Two greats of the Yugoslavian cinema left us in just over two days. The latter was, however, more famous internationally because of his main role in Before the Rain by Milcho Manchevski, lesser known gems Tattoo and We're Cursed, Irina, as well as just about anything worthwile from Macedonian cinema.
