Hmmm... I still have the unwatched blu-ray sitting on my shelf.
Don't actually know if I've seen that as a kid.

January 2022 Year Poll will be.... 1911 and (?).

Question for y'all: My understanding is that when there's a year up to around the mid-10s, we do two polls in one go to keep everyone busy with viewings and/or happy, and the other year chosen shouldn't also be an early cinema year. Is that correct? If so, I'll reveal a companion second year for January.

That's what we did in the last go-round (but on the other hand it's your poll now so you have the power to do whatever you want!).

I'm not to keen on early cinema, so I'd appreciate some post-1940 year to go along with 1911, but as Mesnalty said, it's up to you, Evelyn.

My thinking... back then... was that some years were so sparse that you could watch "all" the available material in far less than a month, and that that justified doing two years at once. That's not so true after 1909 or so, and there's probably enough film for 1911 to spend two weeks on, at least. It might be enough to start 1911 on the 1st and give people the option of starting on the following year when you announce it midmonth. Or whatever you decide...

I kinda prefer one year at a time otherwise I end up choosing one and ignoring the other for any watching. I'm fine with whatever is decided though.

naturally i'll be cool with whatever you decide to do, but my preference is the same as silga's (though for different reasons).

Thanks for the feedback all! Upon reflection, I think the '10s are rich enough in titles to justify dedicating a month to them, but I'll definitely have another later poll running whenever we're doing an 1895-1909 year. And I'll make sure to release the February year poll in mid-Jan so that Silga and company can get a head start on a modern year.

Haven*t we done two 1910's years at the same recently?

I believe so. I don't think that's the best solution, personally, because then the '10s fans don't get a full course of a given '10s year (I found I just picked one year to focus on, usually) but the people who don't care about the '10s don't get anything they're interested in either.

But if most people aren't here for a full-month-for-10s idea, then I'm happy to revise it!

When I scheduled two teen years together, it was the least-worst way to deal with the 8 years we had remaining to do. Definitely wouldn't suggest that as a game plan.

the year i took up half the thread bashing those artfilm hack stobhullets's repellant "history lessons" with that gaspard dude passionately defending it and calling me an asshole. seems so long ago. sweet memories.

ah but then you see i have the problem of deciding if it's a structural void in my aging head that has obliterated things of value, in which case it's worth a re-watch, or if they're films that aren't worth remembering, in which case i'd be better off watching something new which may be. (the losses include manoel de oliveira and yoji yamada's home from the sea which i gave 4.5/5 stars to and still have no memory of at all! i even looked at clips of both and still nothing....distressing, what else have i forgotten, what is the point in being alive etc etc)

sad that i remember innumerable 30 second lumiere clips for 1900 tho, but maybe the first iteration of that poll was more recent...

I have no memory of Fellini's Roma, not uncommon though that a Fellini film exited my head just as fast as it entered it.

April 2022 year poll will be ... 1946.

I don't know if it's possible to create new forum threads, i.e. new topics, so we'll need a work around if the site isn't back to normal by April 1st.

i can create it if needs be, just let me know...

also another year where apparently i've seen double of what i actually remember....
