I don't know if I'll get around to watching it, but I stumbled across this; it looks like a potential Karl movie in particular, and female director, so I wanted to drop a comment about its existence in case it speak to anyone:

Dry Valley , dir: Alexandra Strelyanaya, Russia. It's on youtube.

Pleased to report that I watched a film for this poll and loved it! Paul W.S. Anderson's The Three Musketeers. Back in 2011, I remember thinking the trailers looked fun, something I wouldn't dare admit to the cool-conscious film folks I then traveled with. Sure enough, it's fun, and now, happily enough, vulgar auteurism is around to make enjoying a W.S. Anderson a palatable critical position. I didn't care for Shopping, the only other Anderson I've yet seen, but I should have started here: airship battles, heaving bosoms, Christoph Waltz, Milla Jovovich traversing booby-traps in slow motion, and a newfound spring in my step. Yes, please!

FInal list I think. After the first few choices the rest are all pretty much interchangeable and could have been replaced with some others I left off, so it's mostly whim that determined which made the cut. A lot of solid or mildly interesting films and trends but I didn't manage to see much that I really dug for this year.

A Dangerous Method
Wuthering Heights
Don't Go Breaking My Heart
Tatsumi
Fast Five
Rango
The Fairy
The Rabbi's Cat
Haywire
Jane Eyre
We Need to Talk About Kevin
Sleeping Beauty
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1
The Raid
Take Shelter
Melancholia
Dragon
Bellflower
Urumi
Don't Hug Me I'm Scared

Cheers, hope you like it! It is one of his most ignored, but visually spectacular and as absurd as ever. It was also his very last solo effort (in terms of features).
Thanks for the heads up about it. ;) I'm glad I saw it but, for the first time ever, this Maddin film did nothing for me. :( I think it was the story itself that didn't interest me, and I was dragged along behind it, getting more and more bored as it went along. That's never happened to me before with a film of his.

I was (when I read that), and I still am! Everybody should watch at least 6 documentaries every year! Everybody! Do it guys! You're not getting all your vitamins and nutrients if you don't add a few docos in your film diet from time to time. You'll get rickets. You'll get scurvy. Seriously! Do it!

Having said that, I'm not very keen to watch Herzog's Abyss... :? But I'm excited to see Five Broken Cameras. Woohoo!! thank you, youtube!

Dramatic upset!!!

The Turin Horse is not number one for the year!

I wasn't able to use DT's ballot because he listed 40 movies. Maybe next time.
