Cormac Mccarthy... one of those towering figures I just never got to. I've been intrigued by his newest diptych, but figured I should hit a couple of his classics first.

i really enjoyed a couple of his early novels (orchard keeper, outer dark), but read everything else up to the end of the border trilogy and really didn't get the hype at all. suttree was fine too. but i'm not sure there are that many highly hyped writers from the us that really justify it, so maybe it's me.

oddly enough my intro to brotzmann was one of his quietest albums, with him and han bennink playing together in the heart of the black forest.

but the punkest jazz ever stuff is great too!

On a side note... unrelated levity... when Brittney Spears melted down, with the head-shaving and everything, I was hoping she'd go on SNL and do a song that ended with her ripping up a picture of Walt Disney.

I've been a big fan of the series EUPHORIA and I was very sad to hear one of its main actors, the wonderful Angus Cloud, died today.

yay? he apparently died in july tho. i can't read the article so

here's some info from the southern poverty law center https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate ... chard-lynn
For 50 years, Richard Lynn has been at the forefront of scientific racism. An unapologetic eugenicist, Lynn uses his authority as professor (emeritus) of psychology at the University of Ulster to argue for the genetic inferiority of non-white people. Lynn believes that IQ tests can be used to determine the worth of groups of people, especially racial groups and nations. The wealth and power of nations, according to Lynn, is due to their racial intelligence and “homogeneity” (or “purity”). He argues that the nations with the highest IQs must subjugate or eliminate the lower-IQ groups within their borders in order to preserve their dominance.
horrific. i'm sure he's very popular in MAGA circles
