there's a copy on youtube w/o subs but i think it's the same copy. lots of interesting psychedelic effects! i'd love to see it restored to its full glory

Glad you liked it. Fail Safe is one of my favorite films and I vastly prefer it to Dr. Strangelove.

Fail Safe would go well in double-bill with Seven Days in May.

Caught Beg inokhodtsa / Goodbye, Gulsary! (1969, Sergey Urusevskiy):

Goodbye, Gulsary! is the directorial debut of one of the most legendary cinematographers in the world, Sergey Urusevskiy, the man behind the incredible hand-held camera-movement innovations in The Cranes Are Flying and Sot Cuba. This small 80-minute Kyrgyzstani film about an old man and his horse does not really have the budget to let him shine to his fullest extent and feels quite a bit like a TV movie, but Urusevskiy still brings much life to the film through mixing colour, black and white (likely due to budgeting) and more experimental shots as he hits the heart at the core of the man-animal friendship that spans decades. One of the most intriguing acts is the point to which it makes Gulsary, the horse, feel like an equal protagonist, with these being his flashbacks and well as our human lead's. The shots and long takes are hardly up to his best work, but it still feels dynamic and raw in a very exciting way. 8/10
