i've been watching several 2019-2021 films. i found tenet basically incomprehensible, and the sound mixing was surprisingly awful, though one thing i think nolan does well is find interesting music and image pairings that other directors wouldn't think to try. i absolutely detested nomadland. i don't understand how someone can make a film about finding some sort of liberation in the open spaces of the nevada desert but refuse to hold a shot for more than two seconds. the editing and the thematics were at loggerheads. if the film had been made in belgium twenty years ago, i think people would have called the style dated, and i really dislike that kind of expository dialogue (every character seemed to have some medical condition they wanted to explain to everyone else and that seemed to be their only character trait).

I lost interest in watching Nomadland after seeing it being described as "This decade's Into the Wild" somewhere and also cuz of the fact that the director couldn't wait to jump on the Marvel gravy train.
