Re: 1986 Poll 2.0

Not that thrilled with my choices, the movies are fine but don't really excite all that much, though it's been a good number of years since I've seen a lot of them too, so it might just be fading memory involved. Intended to watch more, but got caught up digging into Parajanov's Arabesques on a Piro...

I dig Carnival in Moscow. One of it's lesser known pleasures is seeing where Lermontov started out before becoming a ballet impressario.

Re: SCFZ poll: Bob Clark

The least Xmassy Xmas poll I could have imagined, the seasonal aptness within Clark's oeuvre nothwithstanding. I mean A Christmas Story is fine in the abstract, nothing too exciting, but nothing all that irksome, but, damn, the amount of attention and continual reference to it over the years bugged ...

Re: Last Watched

I was a big Boorman fan as a teen, but my ardor cooled a bit post-Emerald Forest. I still liked Hope and Glory and Where the Heart is well enough, but it was a more mitigated thing. Those early movies had something of a proto-Lynchian oddness to them that faded a bit as Boorman learned to moderate h...

Have we done a Boorman poll yet? He is a nut, but an interesting one.

Re: Next film I plan to see

It's funny cuz it isn't like I lack things to watch that are actually of interest, I mean I did subscribe to Mubi and it's got more than enough to keep me going as if youtube didn't have enough floating around to already keep me interested. It just feels unsettling to have not seen nothing more than...

Re: Next film I plan to see

Yeah, the prices for the streaming services aren't onerous in themselves if you only get one or two, so that doesn't bother me exactly, though I can't really afford much, it's just something about the subscription model that really troubles me, where VOD is more a price thing matched to the cloud ba...

Re: Next film I plan to see

Ugh. I just became aware Spencer was directed by Pablo Larrain. I'd written it off since I had no desire to see a Princess Di film, but now I really want to see it since I thought Jackie was great, but the world of frickin' subscription viewing is just so damned annoying I'm torn about the whole thi...

I'd go with The Trap over Diary of an Unknown Soldier, the latter of which is fine and more important in some ways perhaps, but comparatively basic in concept in ways that don't really fit Watkins as he developed his methods further.

Heh. One of my favorite adventure yarns from the studio era.
