also can anyone get their hands on a copy of la divine croisière that doesn't have someone's head occupying the bottom half of the screen for the first half? For those looking for something really obscure in 1975, there's the "landmark of Assamese cinema" Ganga Chiloner Pankhi, called in English alternately WINGS OF THE TERN, FEATHERS OF THE TERN, and THE WINGS OF THE ALBATROSS. Take your pick. Here's an article on the film: https://scroll.in/r...

If you require yr Iranian film of a more "intellectual" bent like Taste of Cherry and scorn something like Children of Heaven or Majidi-type films, I'd say avoid it, but we thought PAPER AIRPLANES (dir: Farhad Mehranfar) a lovely one. It'll definitely make the list for this dull year: On Y...

I thought my ten was a lot for this director, yet there's 11 and 13 above.

The only (fairly) weak ones I've seen are the ones about musicians: Albert and Concert at the End of Summer.

1. Valley of the Bees
2. Marketa Lazarova
3. Adelheid
4. Sirius
5. Shadows of a Hot Summer

That's funny, I think it's a purty excellent year. Tough call... between the two Mizoguchis... for number one. Still on the road, so dunno if I'll see many nor any, but the desire's stronger than 2004 certainly. I never did finish the Pagnol trilogy, can't recall why. Who has a subtitled copy of the...

Pont des Arts or Tropical Malady's a tough choice for me. Two of the best movies of the last 20 years. Altogether not so bad far as the 21st century goes; however, since I'm abroad again I doubt I'll see many more. This may end up being the final. An underrated director. As someone above said, the "auteurists" really destroyed his reputation. A pity: he made a number of excellent films, and even his failures are interesting ones. Once more listing some less-seens (of my 13): 1. Act of Violence 2. The Search 3. Teresa 4. The Seventh ...

Finally Flip my eyes just glazed over and I got tired. So I listed 50 favorites - not THE 50 favorites, which would be impossible for me - on the Letterbocker list. The "magic five" are also totally random.
