Seen 11. He has an almost magical quality that ensures I can barely remember any of the films he's directed. I don't know of anyone else whose films seem to react to my memory is if it were made of teflon. The Missing Old Paint Cinderella Man Willow Those are the ones I remember feeling relatively p...

Re: Last Watched
CriterionChannel brought my attention to Office Killer from 1997. The sole feature film directed by Cindy Sherman. I've been a casual fan of her photography (and her bizarre instagram page) for a while, so I was kind of surprised that I'd never heard of this film before. As a sort-of slasher it fit ...

One of my major blind spots. The only thing I've seen by him (does it even count?) is his version of Welles' version of Don Quixote. I can't call that a good film as anything other than an opportunity to see some Welles ephemera. So I'll abstain from voting (and again, I'm not confident that would/s...

In honor of the winner... I bring you the time I went to one of the last remaining video rental shops in Taipei, found a Japanese-import DVD of "Successive Slidings of Pleasure" and proceeded to be baffled by some of the censorship decisions.

Re: SCFZ Top 100 During Covid
I did from the last week of April 2020... that's when I started working from home, and that's what gave me the opportunity to start watching close to a film per day (first time I've ever had that chance for an extended period of time). No Re-watches. Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn (Radu Jude, 2021) ...

As for anyone suggesting future directors... I feel like John Sayles would be a good one that hasn't yet been polled. I've seen all 18 of his features. So if others have seen a significant amount I'll take a count. (unless I'm going about this wrong, then someone please correct me.)

I can never read a lot AND watch a lot of films during a given Month. But 3 is actually above average for me. The Brothers Karamazov - Fyoder Dostoevsky L’Amour - Marguerite Duras Sugar Street - Naguib Mahfouz I somehow was not aware that L’Amour was the source material for Woman of the Ganges. So t...

Re: Last Watched
I quite liked Annette. I mostly agree that the music/lyrics were silly at best and grating at worst... but I'm not a fan of Opera much in general. I had a similar experience to when I first saw Umbrellas of Cherbourg and I physically rejected the overall lack of clear melody. But Demy's film is musi...

I almost never remember my dreams, but this one stuck, maybe because I was slowly waking up and fall back to sleep throughout. Having just cranked through the entire John Sayles filmography... I felt like Baby It's You, his foray into the "teen girl" sub-genre was a particularly strong effort. Plus it was fun to google afterwards in an attempt to figure who the hell Robert Downey Jr. was. (spoiler... he was drinki...

When I was reading Jaglom's "My Lunches with Orson", I was staying in an AirBnB in Iowa. The guy who owned the place saw the book and was like "Oh... you know Henry Jaglom? You're sleeping in his childhood bed." Can't say I ever would have expected that.
