Re: Letterboxd Stats showdown: jimmy Stewart / John Wayne

Thanks again kanafani, this was great fun, as usual. I see it as your xmas present to all of us. I don't have many of these ladies' films under my belt either, and even though I want Stanwyk to win - who knows? - could be I might have rated Davis's films higher overall, putting me on her side. :shoc...

Side Effects made me fall asleep 10 times, and I wasn't even tired.

I probs have time to see one more. Maybe that long, long, b+w medieval sci-fi one, but its length is daunting.

Thanks for bringing it up. I saw it and I'm glad I did, even though it won't make my final list. 8-)

Re: New(ish) Films you've seen in 2018

. . I think I've seen more recently made films this year than in any other year before. "Recently made" for me is no older than 5 years according to imdb., so anything released from Jan 1, 2014. Here they are, highest score to lowest score: . . Loveless (Zvyagintsev, 2017) 8/10 in a cinem...

. . EDIT: I just finished all of Series 2 of The Good Fight . Before that, Sharp Objects , a limited crime-thriller series set in a small southern USA town. Great cast. If Amy Adams wasn't on my radar before, she definitely is now. I think I saw more tv series in 2018 than ever before. 2018 TV. Mos...

I'm gonna try to look for some of those and watch them next year. Of all films, I find docos the hardest to find out there, because fictional stuff is so much more popular.

Documentaries seen in 2018

. . I think it's also a record year for me for documentaries watched. Highest score to lowest score: Titicut Follies (Wiseman, 1967) 8/10 Salinger - PBS American Masters - (Salerno, 2013) 8 . . I hadn't even noticed the woman's hands were bound until it was pointed out. I liked that pic because it looked dreamy, like someone dreaming, and films are similar to dreams.

This year I've watched many more recently made films (for me that's 2014-2018) than I've managed to see in many years.

WBA needs to bring his NEWISH films thread over here.

Good idea. But it won't be until February or March that some of us will be ready to make a final list for films that were first released in 2018.
