Re: 1962 Poll 2.0

May see one two more tho I doubt I'll see anything that could change the top 20 so here's. Frankly the ones I have seen for poll have been mediocrities for the most part. Os Cajafestes definitely did not kick my ass: young nihilists, Antonionian windowdressing, seen it a hundred times, yawn. ivan's ...

Treasure Trove of Polish Movies Until End of November

There's a site with English-subbed Polish classics - but only, it claims, till end of November:

https:// 35mm.online/en/vod/feature-films/

Does anyone know how to "grab" this stuff while it's still up?

As I said, always check Soviet movies on Google/LB against IMDb. Something to do with the Western vs Eastern calendar I suppose.

one of the post-silent era years from which i've seen the fewest films I, on the other hand, have a letterboxer list what runs to 71 titles, including: NINE DAYS OF ONE YEAR (Mikhail Romm): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8Ew8x3D0zE (Man, what a year this was for the reds! Re: 1993 Poll 2.0

OK heres what I got. The date for SHACKLES (Nansalmaagin Uranchimeg) is 1993 on LB, 1998 on IMDb, and various other dates online (1994, even 1991), so who knows. Otherwise I'd have two Mongol films on here, an unusual situation to say the least. The second, RUNNING ANTELOPE (I. Nyamgavaa), ain't on ...

La belle de nuit (Louis Valray). Two French movies from this year about a Parisian chap who's jilted by a lady and who in some distant place (Toulon this time - not so distant as La Grande Jeu's North Africa) meets a lady who's the spittin image of her. I liked em both about equally. However, based ...

Re: 1934 Poll 2.0

Rippin' year, as are all 1930s. This'd probably be my list now. Will try to actually watch a few for the poll this time, since it ain't 2007 or similarly humdrum: Angèle (Pagnol) The Downfall of Osen (Mizoguchi) ('35 on LB, but IMDb has '34) L'Atalante (Vigo) Story of Floating Weeds (Ozu) Man of Ara...

Is there a good year for movies in the 21st century? Compare 2007 to 1954 and 1929: supremely depressing. Well, for what it's worth: Lust, Caution In the City of Sylvia There Will Be Blood 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days Happiness (Hur Jin-ho) With a Girl of Black Soil (Jeon Soo-il) We Own the Night E...

Thanks for the link, Karl! The 1929 Swedish film to see apart from the Molander one is Kingdom of Rye. It premiered on the same day as the first Swedish sound film (Säg det i toner) and was a massive flop. Ingmar Bergman thought highly of it and named it as one of his three favourite Swedish silent...

For those looking for something really obscure in 1975, there's the "landmark of Assamese cinema" Ganga Chiloner Pankhi, called in English alternately WINGS OF THE TERN, FEATHERS OF THE TERN, and THE WINGS OF THE ALBATROSS. Take your pick. Here's an article on the film: https://scroll.in/r...
